The New Patriotic Party's (NPP's) presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has said the government is poised to transform the Afram Plains by developing the area to an appreciable standard just as other areas across the country.
This, Nana Akufo-Addo said, was the reason why a chunk of the Millennium Challenge Account would be utilised to improve upon agriculture in the area.
He was speaking at the Afram Plains where he received a tumultuous welcome unlike earlier visits by some NPP party executives.
Nana Akufo-Addo said in addition to this there was $32 million from the ADB to finance development projects in the area.
The discovery of the finest type of oil in the Western Region, Nana Akufo-Addo said, would be a major component of the industrial agenda of the next NPP government.
Nana Akufo-Addo said the NPP would continue to facilitate the process of reconciliation between the NPP and the people of the Afram Plains.
The depreciation of the cedi coupled with high interest rates during the 19 years of the P/NDC era, he said, had stabilised and reduced under the efficient management of the NPP government. This, he said, was against the 19 years of the P/NDC rule which left the Ghanaian economy in a collapsed state.
In Adawso the arrival of Nana Akufo Addo and his team brought commercial activities in the area, where Nana Akufo-Addo was scheduled to board the Nana Kwasi Gyimah pontoon for his tour to a temporary halt.
The crowd kept increasing as Nana Akufo-Addo arrived in Ekyeamamfrom amidst brass band music and wild jubilation by thousands of NPP supporters clad in 'T' shirts whilst others went on a procession in the Afram Plains South Constituency.
At Kwahu Tafo Nana Akufo-Addo introduced Mr Peter Wiafe Pepera as the parliamentary candidate for Abetifi, and noted that the time had come for Ghana to build on the industrial revolution started by the Kufuor administration.
Addressing NPP supporters at separate rallies in New Abirem, Nkawkaw and Mpraeso where he introduced Mrs Esther Obeng Dapaah, Kwabena Adusa Okechire, Seth Kwame Acheampong respectively, Nana Akufo-Addo mentioned the NHIS, school feeding programme, NYEP, free post natal and pre natal care for pregnant women as well as other tremendous social and humane policies which had benefited all Ghanaians irrespective of their economic standard.
Nana Akufo -Addo was accompanied by the party's Regional Chairman, Yaw Gyekye Amoabeng, Nana Kwame Ampadu, Maame Dokunu, Brian Acheampong, Boakye Agyarko and Yaw Osafo Maafo.
