Kwame Adu, a 28 year-old farmer, who stole a bunch of banana valued at one Ghana Cedis 50 pesewa, has been fined 200 Ghana Cedis by the Asamankese Circuit Court.

Adu pleaded guilty and will go to prison for four months in hard labour in default.

Police Chief Inspector Kate Ogyiri, prosecuting, told the court that both the complainant and Adu were farmers whose farms shared a common boundary.

She said the complainant for sometime now had been detecting series of theft of produce from his farm and had suspected one Nanor a witness in the case, as the culprit.

In the afternoon of October 12, the said Nanor was on his farm close to the complainant's when he saw Adu on the complainant's farm.

The prosecution said in order not to attract Adu's attention, he hid himself in the bush to observe what he would do.

Adu later harvested a bunch of banana from the complainant's farm where upon, the witness raised the alarm.

The witness single-handedly arrested Adu and together with the banana handed him over to the complainant.

Adu was then escorted to the police station where he admitted the offence in his cautioned statement.
