The government of Denmark, through the Danish International Development Agency, has disbursed a grant of GH¢60,000 to selected non-governmental organizations operating in seven Municipal and District Assemblies in the Brong-Ahafo region.

The organisations received between GH¢3,000 and GH¢10,000, based on their capacity.

They are the Human Development Focus operating at Jaman north, 6th March Women's Foundation in Sunyani Municipality and Social Development and Improvement Agency at Tano south district.

Others are Nafaanra Literacy Project operating in Tain; Community Initiative Foundation at Pru; Rural Action 2000 in Kintampo and Ahenbronoso Care Foundation in Techiman.

The assistance is to bolster their activities towards the achievement of specific goals set out under good governance and human rights programmes jointly being undertaken by the government and DANIDA since 2004.

The programme is a product of an agreement between the governments of Ghana and Denmark based on shared objectives of the two countries as reflected in the Danish development policy and the Ghana Poverty Reduction Strategy.

The good governance and human rights programme aims at enhancing participation, human rights, equity, transparency and accountability to ensuring sustainable equitable growth and accelerated poverty reduction within a decentralized democratic environment.

It also focuses on strengthening capacity and efforts of civil society for participation, monitoring, advocacy for good governance and human rights, as well as enhanced participation and accountability in local decision-making and improved service delivery, particularly for the poor.
