By Samuel Opare Lartey, Suhum - newtimesonline.com

THE Suhum Government Hospital is saddled with what to do with 10 unclaimed bodies in its mortuary.

The Hospital Administrator, D.K. Yeboah, said some of the bodies have been at the mortuary since the year 2,000 and are causing congestion.

Mr Yeboah told the Times on Tuesday, that some of the people died at the hospital, others through motor accidents, while the rest were brought to the hospital by friends, police and good Samaritans.

He said some were identified as Daniel Donkor, Henry Danso, Yaavi Amedomey, Kwame Larbi, Isaac Kwame, Baba, Joseph Asare, Kwadwo Bediako and Achaa Kumi.

The tenth person is unknown.

He said Achaa who was listed as a native of Abobiri, near Kuano in the Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District, was brought by her boyfriend and died on September 6, 2005 during delivery.

He said after the death, the family of the boy contacted Achaa’s family to perform the necessary rites to enable her to be buried, but Achaa’s family refused on the grounds that the boy should first perform marriage rites of Achaa and wed the dead before the burial.

Mr Yeboah said he and one of the mortuary attendants went to the girl’s family to negotiate with them to come for the body but they refused.

He said the demands of Achaa’s family annoyed the boyfriend’s family and since then none of the family members has set foot at the hospital.

He appealed to families, especially those who have lost contact with or have not seen nor heard anything about some relatives for the past one year to eight years, to come and look at the bodies.
