A COMBINED effort between the Nima Police and the Nima West Neighbourhood Watchdog Committee last week led to the arrest of eight persons in possession of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The eight are Paul Awuku, 19; Karim Alhassan, 34; Baba Haruna, 38; Adam Imoro, 25; Adam Awudu, 28; Abu Seidu, 35; Issifu Kamal, 24 and a 15-year-old girl, Fidaus Iddrissu.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE in Accra, the Nima Divisional Commander of Police, Chief Supt. Angwubutoge Awuni said the eight were arrested as part of routine operations embarked upon by his outfit to rid the city of criminals for an incident-free Ghana 2008.

He said Karim Alhassan was arrested at his hideout, Kanda, with 34 wrappers of dried leaves, three condoms and a smoking pipe.

Chief Supt. Awuni contended that recent raids by the police to flush out suspected criminals and prostitutes from the city were yielding positive results, adding that concerted efforts were needed from all sections of society to enable the police to achieve its target.

He said as part of measures to reduce crime rate in the area, his outfit would continue with the swoops and screen those arrested before prosecution.By Abubakar Salifu
