The Kintampo South District Chief Executive, Mr. Yaw Adjei-Duffour, has commended the United Nations International Children's Fund (UNICEF) for its support to quality education in the district.

Mr. Adjei-Duffour made the commendation when he presented 208 bicycles donated by UNICEF to some selected schoolgirls and teachers in the district at Jema.

He noted that the bicycles had brought great relief to the beneficiaries who commute to other communities to attend school.

The DCE expressed his concern about the low girl enrolment in the area and stated that the gesture by the UNICEF was to boost the morale of the beneficiaries to enhance girl child education.

Mr. Adjei-Duffour advised the beneficiaries to handle the bicycles well to enable them to last.

Mr. Enoch Osei-Sarfo, District Director of Education commended the government for its laudable policies towards promoting education and called on parents to effectively play their roles as stakeholders of education.

He mentioned the capitation grant, school-feeding programme, the provision of infrastructure and adequate textbooks as enough evidence to encourage parents to take their children to school.

Mr. Osei-Sarfo asked parents to ensure the proper upbringing and development of their children by steering them away from indulging in social vices and other unproductive practices.

Miss Patricia Boateng, District Girls' Education Officer cautioned the girls against pre-marital sex, which she said could ruin their lives.
