The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has taken into custody one of its own following a fatal shooting incident that occurred in Manso Adubia on April 4, 2024.

According to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service, a police officer is alleged to have shot and killed a civilian at Manso Adubia in the Ashanti Region on Friday.

The shooting happened in the early hours of Friday in the town located about 65.1km from the regional capital Kumasi.

The Police statement said: "The Inspector-General of Police has spoken to the wife and family of the deceased and sent a high-powered Police delegation to commiserate with them while investigation into the incident continues.”

Few details have been provided about what led to the confrontation between the officer and the deceased.

The detention of the officer is part of an ongoing investigation by the Police to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

If found culpable, the officer could face criminal charges for his alleged role in the death.
