Former Ghanaian football coach Isaac Opeele Boateng has called on the Akufo-Addo government to urgently address the persistent electricity challenges in the country, popularly known as 'dumsor'.

He urges the government to do so “with respect” for Ghanaians.

In a post via X on Thursday, March 28, Mr. Boateng, who frequently comments on social and political issues, expressed frustration with the frequent power outages while emphasizing the importance of solving the issue.

"Whether a baby died at Tema General Hospital or not, fix the dumsor. Students, welders, tailors, mechanics & Hospitals etc need light on," he said.

Mr. Boateng contrasted the current government's response to the problem with that of the previous Mahama administration.

“At least H.E. Mahama & his ministers did not throw dirt on our faces when we questioned them about Dumsor," he noted.

The former coach's comments come amid reports of power cuts at the Tema General Hospital last Tuesday that were alleged to have resulted in the death of a newborn baby.

While the hospital has since denied the reported deaths, videos circulating online showed parts of the facility illuminated by torchlights during an outage.
