Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that the next government of the party will implement the 24-hour economy in a way that will suit Ghana’s economic context.

The former President is currently campaigning to be given another chance to serve as the president of the country.

Among many promises made, he has indicated that he plans to implement a 24-hour economy to maximize the economic potential of the country.

Speaking on the policy, John Dramani Mahama has stressed that it is the way to go if Ghana wants to prosper.

“All the major and most prosperous economies in the world operate various degrees of 24-hour economies. They include the United States, where nearly 30% of the labour force work at night; the United Kingdom (19%); Germany (12%) and France (7%). In Africa, Kenya is contemplating a 24-hour economy.

“The city of Sydney, the capital of New South Wales in Australia is currently implementing a 24-hour economy strategy. It is worthy of note, that London's night- time economy contributed £17.7bn to £26.3bn in Gross Value Added (GVA) to the UK economy in 2014. London's night economy directly supports over 723,000 jobs, i.e one in eight jobs in London.

“Our 24-hour economy strategy will be tailored and implemented to suit Ghana's economic context,” John Dramani Mahama said.

On Monday, John Dramani Mahama made a stop in Dambai in the Oti Region where he engaged chiefs from various communities.

He has intensified his campaign and continues to call on Ghanaians to vote for him as president in the 2024 General Election.
