A 39-year-old Ghanaian man has been shot dead in Toronto in what police say a homicide.

Adu Boakye was killed in a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday, February 17 at around 3:05pm in the Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue area, a police report.

Reports say the father of four recently moved to Canada just three months ago

Police have identified Boakye as the victim with gunshot wounds.

“Life-saving measures were performed and the man was transported to hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased,” said Constable Laura Brabant in a statement seen by this portal.

From video evidence, police have identified a suspect described as a male, black, between the ages of 18-25, with a thin build.

According to Constable Brabant, the suspect “was wearing a black coat, a white hoodie, black pants, black shoes, a black face covering and possibly a white surgical mask.”

Images of the suspect have been released to the public by police.

Adding to the investigation, the same area was the scene of another shooting just the day before that left one victim with life-threatening injuries.

“Yesterday, on Friday, February 16, 2024, at approximately 5:59 p.m., police responded to a call for a shooting in the Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue area," said Constable Shannon Eames.

Police believe the same stolen black Acura RDX, licence plate CVEN 900, was involved in both shootings.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the police or Crime Stoppers.

Constable Brabant urges the public to contact police on 416-808-7400, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), or at www.222tips.com.
