Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and ICT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), of doing a disservice to President Akufo-Addo.
Dr Boamah asserted that as the Vice President and Head of the Economic Management Team (EMT), Dr Bawumia oversaw the mismanagement of the economy, leading to seven years of economic challenges.
Dr Boamah questioned the credibility of Bawumia's vision, highlighting the drastic depreciation of the Ghanaian Cedi during his tenure as the head of the EMT.
He emphasised that the exchange rate went from 4.5 Cedis to a dollar to the current rate of GHS 12 to a dollar, questioning whether this depreciation was part of the touted vision.
According to Dr Boamah, if Ghana's economy were managed by a robot, it would have grown by now, considering the healthy state he claimed was left behind by former President John Dramani Mahama.
Dr Boamah dismissed Bawumia's candidacy as the third term bid of the exiting Nana Akufo-Addo, cautioning that voting for Dr Bawumia in the 2024 general elections would mean a continuation and exacerbation of the country's economic challenges.
Dr Boamah criticized Dr Bawumia's performance as the head of the EMT, stating that there is nothing substantial to show for it.
He argued that Dr Bawumia's advice to the Finance Minister was what led to the country's downgrade, pointing out that this is the reason he (Dr Bawumia) has been accompanying the Finance Minister to Parliament during annual budget presentations.
Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Neat FM on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, Dr Boamah belittled Bawumia's candidacy as the flagbearer of the NPP.
Regarding the NDC's participation in the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting with the Electoral Commission, he described Monday's meeting as cordial, noting that the NDC was represented by its General Secretary and the Director of Elections and ICT.
He commended the EC for the show of maturity in handling the proceedings of the IPAC meeting.
