The stage is set for an epic showdown as the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares to elect its presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.

A total of 203,439 delegates from all 16 regions of Ghana will cast their votes at 276 constituency centers and the party's national headquarters today, Saturday, November 4.

This was confirmed in a statement released by the party detailing the categories of delegates eligible to participate.

The high-stakes race has boiled down to a tough battle between Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and outspoken MP, Kennedy Agyapong.

Other contenders include former Agriculture Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and former MP Francis Addai-Nimoh.

However, political observers predict the contest will be largely between Bawumia and Agyapong. Both are formidable figures within the party with strong bases of support.

Dr. Bawumia, a seasoned economist and academic, has touted his competence and experience as vice president.

Mr. Agyapong contrasts as a blunt-speaking businessman with grassroots appeal, especially in the Ashanti Region and Central regions.

In total, 436 delegates will vote at the party's headquarters in Accra. The Greater Accra Region has 39,134 delegates, Volta Region has 11,995, and other regions have varying numbers.

According to the NPP statement, delegates comprise party executives, ministers, MPs, electoral coordinators, polling station officers, founding members, MMDCEs and TESCON presidents.

The keenly anticipated poll is a crucial moment for the NPP as it seeks to retain power after the 2024 elections in what they term as breaking the 8-year jinx of governance in the country since 1992.
