Anomabu in the Central Region will today honour three distinguished citizens of the area as part of its activities for the country’s Golden Jubilee activities.

The honour is in recognition of the contributions of the three, Dr. Kwegyir Aggrey, George Ekem Ferguson and Nana Amonoo V, Omanhene of Anomabu, towards nation building.

Nana Amonoo V was among some prominent Fante Chiefs who signed the famous Bond of 1844 with the British.

Dr. Kwegyir Aggrey was a visionary, philosopher and an educationist, who played very significant roles in the evolution of Mfantisipim and Achimota Schools. He is credited for his advocacy of female education, with the saying, 'if you educate a man, you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a nation.'

George Ekem Ferguson, a British trained surveyor, also demarcated the boundaries of the area that became the Gold Coast.

President J. A. Kufuor is the special guest of honour at the function.
