Globacom Limited, headline sponsors of this year's edition of the CAF Awards scheduled for March 1 in Accra, has made two private jets available for the three nominees for the African Footballer of the Year award, Michael Essien, Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto'o Fils, to ensure their presence at the event.

At the official media launch held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra yesterday, Mr Bode Opeseitan, Head of PR and Outdoor Advertising of Globacom, said his outfit had put that measure in place not only to make the three nominees a part of the ceremony but also give it the needed glitz and glamour.

According to Mr Opeseitan, President John Agyekum Kufuor, will also be presented with a Platinum Award at the ceremony.

“President Kufuor will be the second African to receive this Award after President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria in recognition of his role in promoting and developing football to foster peace in Africa.”

Lepowura Alhaji M.N.D. Jawula, who represented CAF at yesterday's ceremony, commended Globacom for their innovation and urged the media to offer its full support for the success of the tournament.

There will be 13 awards in all with the ultimate being the African Player of the Year award which Drogba, Essien and Eto'o are vying for.

Other categories are the Young Player of the Year, Woman Footballer of the Year, Coach of the Year, Best Inter-Club Player, Best National Team, Fair Play, Best Supporters Club, Club of the Year, Africa's Finest Eleven, African Legend and Merit Order of Gold.

The GLO-CAF Awards to be held at the Accra International Conference Centre, will be organised by True Colours, a South African events management firm.
