The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said contrary to allegations by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), it did not engage in vote buying during the Kumawu by-election in the Ashanti Region.

At the end of the election on Tuesday, May 23, the NPP has been overly criticised by not only the NDC but some political analysts over actions described as vote buying.

Speaking to Asaase Radio in an interview, Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed said Ghanaians must not listen to the NDC.

He insists that the party strongly believes in democracy and frowns on vote buying.

“I can tell you clearly, that the NPP believes in democracy and we don’t believe in vote buying.

“We have not attempted buying any vote, we went there to campaign on the development that President

Akufo-Addo has brought – the road infrastructure and hospitals,” Haruna Mohammed said.

He noted that what the NPP did was to campaign on the back of the many jobs and developmental projects of President Akufo-Addo’s government to win the by-election.

“We have done so many jobs, and these were the issues that we campaigned on. So, it will be so worrying and surprising that someone will say we went to Kumawu to buy vote,” Haruna Mohammed argued.
