Ashantis like NDC; we will target 40% votes in 2024 – Kwabena Duffuor

Former governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has rubbished the notion that people in the Ashanti Region will never side with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

There has been long wide perception that the Ashanti Region is for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) due to the fact that continuously after elections, the party always win the region with huge margin.

Although Dr. Duffuor agrees that has been the case, he has stressed that it does not translate to the notion that people in the Ashanti Region are anti-NDC.

According to him, people in the Ashanti Region like the NDC and the party must work on securing 40% of the votes from that region when the country goes to the polls in 2024.

“Ashantis like NDC, it is just propaganda that Ashantis do not like the NDC…Rawlings is the only NDC candidate that polled 33 percent in Ashanti region…in 2024, We will target 40 percent of votes in Ashanti to stop the break the eight, it [Break the eight] will not happen,” the former Finance Minister told GHONE TV in an interview.

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor is one of the leading members of the NDC being tipped to contest for the flagbearer position of the party for the next general election.

He recently shared that he will prefer having Haruna Iddrisu or Alban Bagbin as his running mate if he is to run for president.

Dr. Duffuor is however yet to say on record whether he will vie for the position of flagbearer in the NDC when the party goes to congress or not.
