Politics Of Hon. Victor Mela's Inec Form Scandal And False Declaraton
LISTEN

All hell broke loose, the political atmosphere in Gombe State especially in Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency is brimming with activities threatening the peace that hitherto existed in the Constituency.

Following the conviction of Hon. Victor Mela by Chief Magistrates' Court in Abuja for thé allegations of "False Declaration" in INEC FORM CF001 during the last National Assembly election, filed by Hon. Ali Isa JC at the FCT Police Area Command, Maitama.

The issue of Hon. Victor Mela's INEC FORM CF001 scandal has generated so much heat in his Constituency and beyond.

Publications by some media houses are confused about the truth behind the allegation. It is the hottest topic anywhere you go in Gombe state.

Eminent lawyers, political party faithful, sundry commentators and even freelance grumblers gather in clusters discussing the issue.

But the question on the lips of political observers is whether the story is true or a mere political gimmick to embarrass the APC led government and member representing Balanga/Billiri Federal Constituency in the 9th National Assembly.

According to Hon. Victor Mela "Let it be on record that, this case is a Direct Criminal Complaint instigated and filed by Hon. Ali lsa JC against my humble self at the FCT Police Area Command, Maitama, Abuja.

Let it also be on record that, I had earlier deposed to an affidavit at the FCT High Court to cure the defect in the above-mentioned INEC Form and also made necessary Newspaper Publications as required by law.

He stated further that "While I maintain my innocence, and as I appeal against today's decision of the Magistrate Court, I would like to call on our friends, supporters and our sympathizers to remain calm as well as be rest assured that I will challenge today's perverse decision at the appellate court, immediately.

This commendable move remains a decent, dignified and mature stepping forth to take a second look at a case on which it had already made what would ordinarily have passed for a final pronouncement.

My hope and prayer are that the appellate court comes out with a decision that their Lordships can proudly recommend to their children, their grandchildren, and students of law and posterity.

This is a critical case; and for a nation in critical times standing on slippery slopes of #EndSARS protest, hunger and anger in thé land and every critical challenge on all fronts.

It is against the background of the foregoing considerations that the Appellate Court must exercise the greatest circumspection in the matter at hand.

This is the demand of our history today.
