Abandoned Projects Will Be Completed In My First Year If Elected – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama says should he be elected back as President, he’ll spend the first year of his term completing all abandoned projects his administration left behind.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has accused the Akufo-Addo government of abandoning development projects started by his administration in the Volta Region where he is currently touring.

Mr Mahama said the 1992 Constitution “even says” under the Directive Principles of State Policy that “projects started by previous governments should be continued by the successive government, but what do we see here in Akatsi South?”

At a meeting with the chiefs and elders of the region, Mr Mahama complained that “all the projects we started, as soon as my administration left office, everything has come to a standstill”.

“Like [the] chief said; district hospital, 90 per cent complete, four years now, it’s standing”, he stressed.

Taxpayers’ money, he noted, has been “invested into that hospital and yet the hospital is not available to give service to the people it was meant to give service to because another government has come”.

Additionally, he said: “All the electrification projects have come to a standstill because a new government has come”.

Further, Mr Mahama pointed out that “all the roads Togbui mentioned, we awarded them on contract…”

However, addressing the Chiefs and people of the Avenor Traditional Area on Tuesday, Mr Mahama stated that his future government won’t start new projects but will commit the resources to complete existing abandoned projects before starting any new ones.

“You go to our secondary schools, facilities that we were putting in the schools for four years now have come to a standstill. Yet we are using resources to start projects elsewhere when we could have finished the projects being worked on. And so that will be a priority for us, we’ll take inventory of all abandoned projects all across the country and we’ll spend resources of our first year finishing those projects so that our people can have access to them before we start new projects in other places.”
