Spreading the Gospel is a core mandate of every believer. Today, we will learn three important things about evangelism that every Christian must know. Before we proceed let’s look at some statistics which could stir our appetite for evangelism. Almost two-thirds of the world’s population has never heard the Gospel message.

Over a thousand people groups have never been penetrated for the Lord Jesus Christ. Many tribes have never received their first missionary. There are approximately 1,700 languages without the written word of God.

Statistics tell us that thirty-three percent of all “born-again Christians” still support things like abortion and New Age thinking. This obviously does not depict the attitude of a person who’s truly been born again. Amazingly Billy Graham was quoted as saying that

‘Only fifteen percent of all the people who professed to be Christian are truly born again’.

These calls for a serious wake up in the body of Christ to evangelize passionately. Evangelism is the heartbeat of God and day in day out many souls rushed to hell but many Christians are unconcerned while others claimed they don’t know how to win souls and justify themselves with excuses. The love of Christ and the rate at which many perish should be enough to compel Christians to seek the lost at all cost but that is not always the case. Our love for God should compel us to love souls and win the lost no matter the price.

WHAT IS EVANGELISM
First of all, we need to understand what evangelism is and how to effectively evangelize to the lost. Remember when the axe is blunt, much strength is needed (Ecclesiastes 10:10)… hence we need to sharpen the appropriate tools to effectively carry out this mandate. The word “Evangelism comes from a Greek word “Evangelion” Which means “good news,” “to proclaim the good news,” and also refers to the “evangelist” or person doing the proclaiming.

The Believer must bear in mind these three in order to evangelize without weariness. The first reason why we evangelize is that it is a command of our Lord Jesus Christ. His last words should be our first priority. In our culture, the last words of a man are very important to him and must be carried out exactly as he said it without hesitation. Our Lord’s final words were “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15.

1. EVANGELISM AS A COMMAND
We are commanded to Go into the world and preach the gospel. God loves the world that is why he commands us to go and evangelize, unfortunately, many Christians are stuck in their pews and not fulfilling the great commission. The great commission is not a great suggestion or a wish or an opinion. It is a command that must be obeyed with urgency. Our love for God has run cold hence we don’t see the urgency to save the lost. Furthermore, we lack fire in our bones and our Lukewarmness has hindered the propagation of the gospel to the unreached soul. Dr Rodney Howard notes that

Soul Winning is not a program but a PASSION.

Soul Winning is not an event but a LIFESTYLE.

Souls are the currency of ETERNITY.
Evangelism or soul winning has been relegated to a few we call evangelists, but just as Paul admonished Timothy, every Christian must do the work of an evangelist. Christians should not wait till churches organize an evangelism outreach before they win a soul, this should be a daily affair. There is nothing we can send to heaven except the souls we have won. The Bible says it is certain we can take away nothing from this world because we brought nothing. The only thing we can be assured of taking to Heaven is the souls we won for God. (1Timothy 6:7).

It is not God’s will that anyone should perish. We need to have this same passion to seek the lost and bring them to the saving knowledge of Christ. Every lost son and coin must be searched for with diligence for more rejoicing to take place in heaven. Winning souls makes heaven joyful and it shows our wisdom. Stay blessed and ready to share the Gospel of Jesus with others.
