In its fifth week, the Vodafone Icons Mixed edition pulled a surprise on the audience when Benny Blanco, host of the show, announced recently-adjudged VGMA Artiste of the Year, Sarkodie, as the 'guest judge' for the evening.
The roar from the audience proved their acceptance of Ghana's fastest rapper as the judge for the night that was characterised by Ghanaian highlife songs.
The 'newest judge' clearly brought his experience and expertise in the music industry to bear on the night's performances as he gave his professional opinion and advice to the various groups after their performances.
This week's edition seemed to have favoured Vybes, who were in the bottom two with 2JD, as they were saved by Miss Naa and Apietus, basically because they outperformed 2JD last week.
2JD had to leave the competition as the icy hands of eviction fell on them. Interestingly, the group, Black n Peach, who have been saved by the judges on two occasions, were not in the bottom two this week.
The night saw amazing performances of Ghanaian highlife songs from the remaining six groups including the evicted 2JD.
Prior to their performances, the six groups interacted with Ghana's hiplife group 4X4, who shared their experiences with the icons on how they had stayed together as a music group.
With three evictions done so far and two more to go, the public are being encouraged to vote for their favourite group to stay in the competition by texting the group name to short code 1738, as the battle for the largest prize in the music and entertainment industry in Ghana gets tougher by the week.
Vodafone has also announced that the highest Vodafone texter will walk away with the all new Kia Rio courtesy Rana Motors.
The Vodafone Icons Mixed Edition airs every Sunday on Metro TV 7:30pm and at 8:00pm on TV3, e.tv Ghana, Skyy TV, 4Syt TV, Crystal TV, GH One and Hitz TV (MultiTV).
