Ghana's Mission in Cote d'Ivoire marks World Peace Day with Volleyball match

Bondoukou, (Cote d'Ivoire), Sept. 24, GNA - Ghana's Mission in Cote d'Ivoire engaged the youth of Bondoulou in a volleyball match to mark the 2010 World Peace Day.

In a performance interspersed with active spikes, the Forces for Defence and Security (FDS) of the 13th Battalion serving with the United Nations Missions (UNOCI) defeated the Association of Sports of the local Senior Secondary School (ASLMD) 2-1 who represented the youth of Bondoukou at the event.

The Mission, however, rather handed over the trophy to ASLMD, the first runner-up team as a form of solidarity with the youth of the area.

Lt Col. A. Alobawone, Commanding Officer of Ghanbatt 13, who handed over the trophy said it was a sign that the Ghana Battalion and UNOCI was ready to partner the youth and the community in their quest for ensuring peace in the area, especially ahead of the 31 October polls.

The Representative of the (Prefect) Regional Minister of the Zanzan Region and the Mayor of Bondoukou was present to grace the ocassion.

World Peace Day which started in 1981 falls on September 21 every year and the day is observed as such.
