George Afriyie has expressed acceptance after seeing his appeal dismissed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in his attempt to overturn his disqualification from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential elections.

Afriyie was ruled ineligible to stand for the top GFA role by the association's Appeals Committee last September.

The former GFA Vice President appealed that decision to CAS but saw his case thrown out by the tribunal today.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Afriyie said: "I have today received the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) regarding my appeal against the Decision of the Elections of the Ghana Football Association. The CAS, in their decision have upheld the decision of the Election Committee of the GFA."

He added: "I take the decision in good faith. I express my sincere gratitude to everyone who supported me during this period."

In its ruling, CAS confirmed it was dismissing Afriyie's appeal and upholding the original decision to disqualify him from the elections.

He was also ordered to pay CHF 1,000 towards the GFA's legal costs.
