The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed an appeal by George Afriyie against his disqualification from contesting in the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential elections.

Afriyie filed an appeal with CAS on September 29, 2023, challenging a decision by the GFA Appeals Committee to uphold his disqualification from the election process on September 15.

However, in a ruling handed down on May 6, 2024, CAS sole arbitrator Mohamed Abdel Räouf rejected Afriyie's appeal and confirmed the decision of the GFA Appeals Committee.

In the ruling, CAS cited that "The appeal filed on 29 September 2023 by George Kwasi Afriyie against the decision rendered on 15 September 2023 by the GFA Appeals Committee is dismissed."

CAS also ordered Afriyie, a former GFA Vice President, to pay CHF 1,000 towards the football association’s legal costs.

The CAS, in their decision have upheld the decision of the Election Committee of the GFA."

He added: "I take the decision in good faith. I express my sincere gratitude to everyone who supported me during this period."
