English-born Ghanaian forward Eddie Nketiah has made a surprising return to the England national team squad for their upcoming matches against Australia and Italy.

In England's recent 1-1 draw with Ukraine, the 24-year-old striker was notably absent from the matchday squad, raising questions about his omission, especially given his promising track record.

His absence continued in the subsequent game against Scotland, where he remained an unused substitute.

What makes this recall even more remarkable is that Nketiah's absence from recent England matches leaves him eligible to represent Ghana's Black Stars in international football.

Despite previously featuring for England at the junior levels, he has retained his eligibility to represent Ghana.

England's manager, Gareth Southgate, has now extended an invitation to Eddie Nketiah for the second consecutive time to join the senior national team.

The England squad is gearing up for their first match in the October international break, set to face Australia on Friday, October 13.

Eddie Nketiah had started the 2023-2024 season on a strong note but experienced a dip in form in recent games.
