In a surprising turn of events, Argentine football legend Lionel Messi has chosen to join Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Inter Miami Football Club for the 2023/24 season, snubbing offers from his former club, FC Barcelona, and Saudi Arabian giants, Al Hilal.

The news broke on Wednesday, June 7, when football transfer news expert, Fabrizio Romano, took to Twitter to announce Messi's decision.

“Lionel Messi to Inter Miami, here we go! The decision has been made and it will be announced by Leo in the next hours,” wrote the transfer expert.

Messi's move to Barcelona seemed almost inevitable after the league authorities cleared the club’s financial stoppages.

However, Romano revealed that the Argentine star did not receive any guarantees regarding his registration with the Catalan club.

“Barcelona didn’t have any chance to give Leo guarantees on his registration,” he stated.

As for Al Hilal, Romano stated that the club would not send a final bid to Messi, as the decision had already been made.

“Al Hilal won’t send any final bid to Messi. No chance and no sense to improve the proposal as decision has been made: he will join Inter Miami,” Romano wrote.

Messi's move to Inter Miami marks a significant milestone in his illustrious career.

Since joining Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in 2021, Messi played 75 games and scored 32 goals for the club, as reported by goal.com on June 3, 2023.

The addition of Messi to Inter Miami's roster is expected to boost the club's performance and further elevate the profile of MLS in the international football scene.

Fans around the world eagerly await Messi's official announcement and his debut with the Floridian club in the upcoming season.
