The Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Kudjoe Fianoo, says he is seeking re-election to complete an unfinished business of repositioning the association for the future.

Mr Fianoo noted that his tenure was hugely affected by the Anas Number 12 expose in 2018, as well as the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic last year, hence the need to seek another mandate to fulfil his mission.

“I have an unfinished business at GHALCA and that is why I want to seek re-election,” Fianoo told the Daily Graphic.

“I don’t want to apportion blames but I was affected by the Anas expose and COVID-19 during my first term.

“The focus is to reposition GHALCA for the future and that is what I want to achieve in my second term. One of the ways of achieving that is to link up with club associations all over the world to fight for the interest of our members,” he explained in an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic yesterday.

Ahead of the upcoming GHALCA election slated for Thursday, January 21, veteran Mr Fianoo also promised to ensure GHALCA becomes an affiliate of the world club union body when given the nod to continue as the head of the clubs’ welfare body.

The one-time GHALCA administrative manager, whose contribution helped to make the association tick as a pressure group in the 90s, is looking forward to fighting for a more favourable tax regime for clubs, which he believes, has been one of the major headache of members over the years.

He stressed the need for the government to review the Value Added Tax (VAT) and import duties to help in the smooth running of clubs.

He described the recognition of GHALCA as a major stakeholder in Ghana football as an achievement of the association but believed the focus must be to champion the cause of members.

The former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ashantigold Sporting Club is being challenged by Mr Isaac Koomson, a management member of Aduana Stars, for the GHALCA chairmanship slot in the upcoming elections.
