Asante Kotoko have officially written to the Ghana Football Association asking for a change of venue from the Accra Stadium to the Tamale Stadium in the ongoing 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season.

The home venue for the Porcupine Warriors, the Baba Yara Stadium is currently under renovation which forced them to use the Accra Sports Stadium as their home venue.

Club Spokesperson, Moses Antwi Benefo has confirmed they officiating sent a letter to the Ghana FA seeking for the change and hopes to communicate that to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as well.

He cited busy as their reasons indicating the same facility is been accessed by four clubs namely Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics, Legon Cities and Inter Allies in the ongoing campaign.

“We have written a request to the GFA for a venue change four Ghana Premier League home matches. We want to move from Accra to the Tamale Sports Stadium.

“We all know there is immense pressure on the Accra Sports Stadium. Legon Cities, Inter Allies, Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics and Kotoko are using the facility.

“This year, we’ve had Caf’s inspection team approve the Tamale Stadium as fit to host Caf inter-club matches so we adopted it as our second home venue in the event we are unable to use Accra for our Champions League games.

“And the GFA’s President has already brought the mantra ‘Bring Back The Love’ and ‘Creating Wealth For All’. We believe the love is back and we want to spread it across the length and breadth of the country. We believe moving to Tamale would help improve the economy there,” he added.

With this, the two-time African champions are set and prepared to a fully residential camping in Tamale to host their subsequent home games until the renovation works are completed at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The last time Kotoko appeared on the Alhaji Aliu Mahama stadium was in 2017 when they humbled arch-rivals Hearts of Oak to win their 9th FA Cup title.

Asante Kotoko picked a draw last Sunday against Mauritanian champions FC Nouadhibou with the return leg likely to be honoured in the capital of the Northern Region, next week.

Already the Porcupines have had the Tamale facility approved by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) as an alternate venue for their Champions League campaign this season and have offered to bear every cost should the GFA decide that its Club Licensing Board (CLB) has to inspect the venue before sanctioning any switch.
