Army wins Armed Forces Sports Festival

Ghana Army collected 20 Gold, 22 Silver and 14 Bronze medals to win this year's Ghana Armed Forces Inter Service Sports Festival which ended at the Nicholson Stadium at Burma Camp in Accra on Friday.

Navy came second with 14 Gold, six Silver and 13 Bronze, while Air Force placed third with eight Gold, 14 Silver and 14 Bronze medals.

Twenty players, who excelled during the games including Sgt. Lomotey Tagoe of Air Force and Patience Ocloo also of Air Force received special prizes.

Lt-Gen. J.B. Danquah, Chief of Defence Staff said sports, apart from providing entertainment, also provide a platform for healthy interaction.

It also promotes physical fitness, to unearth talents for the nation, he said, adding that it helps, the Armed Forces to select a formidable team to represent them for games.

He commended the officials who officiated in the games to ensure incident-free competitions.
