The POS Foundation with funding from the GIZ has held its maiden National Women's Dialogue as a special initiative, targeted at Ghanaian women and their business to create a platform for them to share their challenges, best practices and discuss suitable approaches for resolving them.

The National Women Dialogue aimed at bridging the gap between socio-cultural issues affecting women and their businesses while considering policies, initiatives to enhance women's access to justice.

The dialogue also aimed at educating women on financial management and capital acquisition for sustainably growing their businesses and empowering women towards economic independence in the quest to achieve Gender Equity and social inclusion.

Hence, the dialogue is expected to create awareness on fundamental human rights and laws regarding women entrepreneurs and their businesses.

To create awareness on barriers especially socio-cultural intimidation and impediment relating to their businesses as well as possible policy initiatives to enhance women's access to justice.

The dialogue which was on the theme: Gender Equity, Women Economic Employment and Access to Justice; Requisites for Driving SME Growth in Ghana" drew participants from the public, private sector, women groups, CSOs, corporate women organizations, students, policymakers, market women and women in SMEs across various sectors.

Madam Elsie Awadzi, Deputy Governor of the central bank, Ghana, speaking on the topic; prospects of women in business: the hard facts of Gender inequity, access to capital and financial management towards women economic independence, said financial institutions are introducing more innovative financial services for women entrepreneurs in order to improve access to finance SMEs.

Adding that, the central bank has been at the forefront to ensure that infrastructure and cooperate regulation policies in place to encourage financial institutions to innovate to support women in business.

The President of the Association of Market Women, Greater Accra, Hon. Mercy Afrowa Nee Djan urged women in business to practice management in business.

She said women in SMEs need peace in order to stay in business, therefore she appealed for peace before, during and after the 2020 general election.

At the end of the dialogue, Mr. Jonathan Osei Owusu Executive Director -POS Foundation launched a 'Logo', Women Access to Justice, Gender Equity and Economic Empowerment (WAJGEE) which will help women have access to justice and attend gender equity.

The event was graced by Professor Akosua Darkwah, University of Ghana, Legon; madam Sheila Azuntaba, CEO of innovative microfinance Ltd; Mrs. Georgette Barnes Sakyi-Addo, executive director and team leader, Georgette Barnes Ltd.
