Problems Facing My Community; Siniensi Ghana
29.08.2019 LISTEN

I am the person of Anagelik Sheila. I am a student of Siniensi Junior High School and I want to talk about the topic; The Problems Facing My Community.

A community is a group of people living in a particular local area having common interests, values, and objectives. Siniensi is my community and it is located in the Builsa North District of The Upper East Region of Ghana. The name of our Chief is Naab Afulaang Apiꬼjiak Gilbert.

The major occupation of the people in my community is farming and a few are traders. Our community has also raised many professionals like teachers, academicians, doctors, politicians, nurses and many others, however, there are several challenges facing the community which I would like to discuss with you all.

To begin with, there is no portable water in the community, the only source of water is from few boreholes and streams which causes a lot of diseases like typhoid and cholera. This is because the animals also drink from the streams. Waste and other organic materials are also washed down the streams during rains. The water is also exposed to the atmosphere which makes it collect dust and impurities making it unsafe for drinking. People fall sick often and some even die due to the consumption of contaminated water. The Ghana Water Company Limited together with the District Assembly should make efforts to provide the people with pipe-borne water.

Another problem is the lack of an effective health centre or hospital. Patients have to be transferred to nearby communities like Sandema for health care in which some people lose their lives before reaching the hospital. A well-equipped hospital in Siniensi will help address health challenges in the community.

Moreover, the school buildings in our community are very old with a lot of cracks on the walls. Not only on the walls, but also the floor. Our school does not also have a library, toilet facility and staff sitting room. Government should come to the aid of our schools.

Last and most importantly is the poor state of the roads linking the community to other communities like Dogninga, Sandema and Wiaga. The roads are untarred with many pot holes. This make transportation of people and goods difficult hindering the economic activities and development of the community.

The situation is even worse during rainy season and farmers are unable to transport their goods from their farms to sell. Other businessmen and women are not able to travel to carry out their businesses. Nobody is able to travel to our community to do anything, and this has brought about poverty, hunger and is impeding the development of the community.

It is my fervent hope that our government would help solve the community problems of Siniensi. My name once again is Anagelik Sheila, thank you for your attention.
