Don’t vote for Chairman Jerry – Asutifi youth caution NPP delegates ahead of regional elections

Some NPP youth in the Asutifi North Constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region are calling on party delegates not to vote for Francis Opoku Sarfo as the Regional Chairman of party because, in their view, he does not have what it takes to be the Regional Chairman.

They accuse Mr. Opoku Sarfo, also called Chairman Jerry, of being temperamental, dishonest, egoistic, disrespectful, divisive, and arrogant, and someone who lacks the ability to build consensus.

Besides, he has squandered the opportunity given him as the current Constituency Chairman of the party in the Asutifi North Constituency and ended up running down the party in the constituency to the extent that he does not account to anyone and holds party meetings only at his house or at a church building.

“The party’s office is now dysfunctional as there is no furniture. The office equipment and furniture that existed at the office before Chairman Jerry crossed the carpet from the NDC to the NPP and managed to become the Constituency Chairman have all been destroyed with no sign of their replacement”, they alleged.

Spokesperson of the group, Kennedy Adu-Agyei said at a News Conference in Sunyani that Mr. Opoku Sarfo’s lack of transparency and accountability in the way he runs the affairs of the party is having a toll on the party’s electoral fortunes in the area.

He said if NPP delegates make the mistake and vote for him, the party is most likely to lose the 2020 elections in the Brong Ahafo region because Mr. Opoku Sarfo lacks the basic leadership skills to make any positive impact on the party in the region.

“He is dishonest, not transparent and not accountable”, Mr. Adu-Agyei said adding that “throughout his eight year reign, he has never rendered account to anybody as to how much was remitted to the constituency not even the treasurer nor the financial secretary knows anything about the party’s financial matters.”

According to the group, Chairman Jerry is “disrespectful, arrogant and egoistic. He has the penchant of insulting elders whenever his course of action in not supported by the elders of the party.”

“A case in point is where he publicly insulted the former MP of the area, Paul Okoh and the then Regional Chairman and currently the Regional Minister over the DCE issue because the two did not support his stance.”

Chairman Jerry refused to pick all the calls made by this reporter to him for his response to the issues raised. Besides, he has not bothered to respond to a whatz-up message to him about the allegations made against him.
