Independence Struggle And Present-Day Needs Of Ordinary Ghanaians; The Narrative

Feature Article Independence Struggle And Present-Day Needs Of Ordinary Ghanaians; The Narrative
SEP 21, 2017 LISTEN

I've been observing the debate that has ensued following the declarations of two separate days to be observed as public holidays in commermeration of the great Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah's unparrelled contribution to our nation's independence struggle, as well as equally key roles played by other noble personalities before him.

Now, the argument by followers of the great Osagyefo, as usual, is that, the man has no 'quo-equal, and therefore, nobody else should be associated with the struggles leading to our nation's independence, but him.

Asuch, the decision by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to institute the aforementioned public holidays is tantamount to rewritting our nation's history, with expressed-purpose of obliterating the great Osagyefo's contributions.

Personally, I believe this unending debate over who played which role in liberating our country from the clutches of colonialism is completely unnecessary, totally unproductive and woefully backward.

Instead of being truthful, dispassionate and civil about narration of our history and according the needed recognition to all who contributed to our nation's independence struggle, this simple historical exercise has rather been hijacked by dogmatic ideologues of a dead Marxist philosophy, and turned into pointless and mindless shouting-battle.

In contemporary global geopolitics, no nation with vision to pursue workable socioeconomic policies for the betterment of its citizens, talks about socialism.

Ironically, those always bothering our ears with this socialism cacophony, are the ones with the best of tastes for the fruits of capitalism, and this is evident in the lifestyles of Ghanaian version of such characters, whose names I need not enumerate since its a matter of public record.

For me, and this indeed is a personal opinion, I would not have advised the President, HE Nana AffordAddo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to bother himself with this move; and my reason is very simple: Ghana's population, as at present, consists of nearly 70% of those with average age of between 25 and 40year bracket.

This huge mass of our population is operating in the modern-day ICT environment where knowledge is what really counts and forms the bedrock of socioeconomic advancement of nations.

Present-day youth of nations across the globe are confronted with menace of inaccessibility to education and job opportunities. Now, these, fortunately, are the issues being tackled by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration, with the rolling out of FREE SHS, ONE-DISTRICT-ONE-FACTORY policies. Indeed, these are the things present-day people worry about and definitely not who stood at the old Polo grounds to make which proclamation.

So for me, this unending debate over who played which role in liberating our country from the clutches of colonialism, is totally unproductive in the light of what confronts us, presently, and what the current Nana Addo administration is actually doing to address same is what must rather capture the headlines.

What these ardent followers of the great Osagyefo must know is that, the NPP, which supposedly 'opposed' Ghana's independence, and is right-winged, ideologically, has rather given Ghanaians NHIS, SCHOOL FEEDING, NYEP, FREE MATERNAL CARE, LEAP, CAPITATION GRANT, METRO MASS, COCOA SPRAYING, FREE SHS, and still counting.

On the contrary, these ardent followers of the great Osagyefo have shamelesslessly tied their noses to apron-strings of people with deep pockets and always fighting their proxy wars.

The matchless organizational skills exhibited by the great Osagyefo, has shamlesslessly been thrown to the dogs by his so-called ardent followers, leaving the once vibrant CPP in total shambles, and it's survival on the spectrum of our contemporary politics, totally in impossible.

On the field of mindless cacophony, these so-called adherents to ideals of the great Osagyefo will always score high grades but will have proven to be hopelessly hopeless when it comes to getting their act together, be a serious political force, win political power and to continue the great lways works of the great Osagyefo.

NPP, on the contrary, always loses the mindless cacophonous battle but has actually demonstrated both the capacity and capability to develop our dear nation with integrity. And this is what really matters to Ghanaians and therefore must capture our attention and be the topic for discussion.

Indeed, the world is definitely not waiting for us in the quest for socioeconomic advancement by way of commerce and technological advancement on the highly-competitive market space.

It is imperative, therefore, that, as a people, we expended precious time and energies on productive ventures rather than splitting hairs over trivially trivial trivialities which are often rooted in bogus, misdirected and unproductive sentimentalism to a totally irrelevant political ideology in contemporary global geopolitics .

GOD BLESS OUR HOMELAND GHANA.
