Face of Central University 2016 contestants unveiled

Accra, April 18, GNA - The Women's Commission of the Students Representative Council's (SRC) of Central University (CU) has unveiled 11 finalists for the 2016 edition of its annual beauty pageant dubbed 'Face of Central University'.

The 11 contestants who were selected from the Miotso and Matheko Campuses of CU were Halima Iyke- Oginah, Caroline Mawusae Agbenyenu, Akua Adobea Obuobi and Grace Essilfie.

The rest were Doyinsola Osanyinbi, Dzifa Gordor, Theola Badu, Bridgette Hislord, Susan Peterside, Stephanie Asare and Rosaline Asare.

The Grand Finale is slated for Saturday, April 30, at the Trinity Hall, CU.

Prizes for this year's edition of the pageant would comprise cash and scholarship, a tour package, corporate social responsibility project, grooming opportunities and sponsor product packages.

The ladies exuded confidence as they stepped on stage in pairs in sporting African prints, much to the admiration of the audience who cheered their favorite contestants on.

Some of the contestants used the platform to talk about some qualities they possess which would be ticket to claim the bragging rights of the 2016 Face of CU crown in addition to a scholarship package.

Speaking at the Ceremony, Ms Beatrice Gyimah, the SRC Women's Commissioner of CU, said she was proud of being part of the CU tradition of raising transformational leaders.

She said the Commission in partnership with the SRC Executives had undertaken series of activities to promote the welfare and interest of women on campus.

She said the contestants had gone through auditions, grooming as well as two separate photo shoots, however, it was appropriate to officially introduce them all to wish them luck in their quest to be 'Face of CU 2016'.

Ms Gyimah said after unveiling ceremony, the contestants would be engaged in a fierce cooking contest at the Old Girls Hostel on Saturday, April 23.

She said they would also be at Dahwenya for their project on improving education, health and environment, on Tuesday, April 26.

'As a corporate social responsibility strategy, they have activities such as clean up exercise, health screening and scholarship for needy children; to put a smile on as many as they can', she said.

Ms Gyimah also invited all and sundry to the Inter- Tertiary WOCOMS for Peace forum, at 09:00 hours on the Saturday April 30.

'Contestants will be special guests for this big forum on the theme; 'the role of the tertiary student towards peace and nation building,' she said.

The event was sponsored by American Silky Straight, Frytol, Fortune Rice, Caves and Gardens, Condor Peak, Yazz, Latex Foam, Abii National, Abbi Creation for Costume, Wendy Lartisan for Accessories, Yasmine Kamagate for Makeup, Rush Energy Drink, Onga, Indomie, ATL, Printex and Lydia Contraceptive.

The ceremony saw Hiplife Artiste Tinny and Dancehall Artiste Episode gracing the occasion with a splendid performance.
