A Letter To My Future Child

A Letter To My Future Child
26.06.2015 LISTEN

Hello Nana Kwame,
I know you are surprised to receive this letter from me. Yes! It is very strange for a Dad to write a letter to his unborn child. Nana, I have to do it and I wished my Dad wrote such a letter to me before I came into the world. There are so many mistakes I have made in my life and I wouldn’t want you to make such mistakes too.

Nana before then, I have intercepted your prayers and request to God that your future mum and I will have sex so that you come to the world immediately. Nana, that prayer of yours won’t be answered now and you better stop it. Did I hear you say “awww Daddy?" Yes Nana, if you come into the world at this present moment, trust me, you will regret it. Your future mum and I are not financially sound and there are woes of economic crisis coupled with ‘Dumsor’. So be patient, don’t be eager to come now, you will surely come but at the right time. I promise to make your life a mirthful one when you come.

Nana, the world is surfeited with so many challenges and before you can survive, you have to be smart. But you know what? Smartness alone isn’t enough to safeguard you. The most important thing is to clinch to God. The world is serpentine and nasty and it will take the grace of God to reach your destiny. There are so many challenges you are going to encounter but if you seek God He will take you through.

Nana, when you come to this world, be of yourself ok. Never envy anyone and always have this in mind that you are a wonderful and precious being just as you are. You are going to meet so many people in this world; some may treat you well and others may not but whatever be the case, let love reign in your life and relate with everyone cordially. Be a truth seeker and whenever you find it speak it quietly and clearly. Wisdom and good attitude should be your hallmark. Take kindly the counsel of the elderly ones especially your future mum and myself.

Nana, when you come, I want you to be very careful in your youthful age. Be discipline and gentle in everything you do. Never chase women or take alcohol. Live a life worth emulating. Your youthful age shouldn’t be a weakness but an opportunity for self-discovery and foundation laying. As you climb the ladder of life, there are so many people who are going to disappoint you: your close friends, girlfriend and even myself but never give up. Nana, when you come into this world make sure you study hard. I promise to send you to one of the best schools in the country and never cheat in examination especially when it is BECE otherwise you will get your papers cancelled.

I also advise you to stay calm so that God will craft you beautifully because when you become a fresh boy, you can easily win SRC elections at the University. Nana, the God that provides a boy with yam in the bush will surely provide him with a hoe to dig it. I am going to be your Dad and I know God will provide me with everything to take care of you. I am also working hard to achieve my dreams. Don’t expect a letter from your future mum as I have done because she doesn’t like reading or writing, atlas she says Hi, she is just smiling here. Nana, until I hear you cry as a baby ‘ng33 ng33’ stay blessed.

“We are not children of a lesser god”
Your lovely future Dad,
Ntenhene Felix,
