Don’t Photograph Your Votes—Minority Leader To NPP Delegates

The Minority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has cautioned party delegates not to undermine the integrity of the election process by taking photographs of the candidate they voted for.

According to him, such conduct has the possibility of creating chaos in the party.

After casting his vote in Kumasi, the Suame lawmaker urged persons suggesting that the candidate with the highest number of votes must automatically lead the party in the 2016 general elections to hold on to their recommendations.

He told Citi News the suggestion is not in accordance with the party's constitution but quickly added that it will not be out of place to “apply physical minds to the constitution to see what we can do to further to deepen what we are doing.”

In a related development, the spokesperson for ex-President John Kufuor has told Citi News, any consideration to such suggestions will limit the aspirations of persons who wish to lead.

Frank Agyekum pointed out that individuals join political parties for various reasons “so if at any point in time, if any body feels constrained of feels that the process is being instituted to curtail their ambition, then it leads to all sorts of chaos.”

He appealed to party members with similar views to allow the current process to run its full course.

“As at now, this is the process we have all agreed to and I think we should go through it and after that we will see,” he remarked.

Regarding the issue of delegates taking photographs of their ballot papers, Frank Agyekum described the situation as “very unfortunate” adding that “these are the things that create chaos…that is not good.”

The NPP is currently voting to reduce the number of presidential candidate aspirants from seven to five as stipulated in the party's constitution.

Voting is underway at all regional capitals across the country.
