AUG 23, 2014 LISTEN

THE 2012 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo, has taken an early lead in the Super Delegates' Congress of the party, as members of the United Kingdom branch of the party have given him their votes.

According a statement issued by NPP UK Communication Team from London yesterday, Nana Addo is their preferred candidate for the upcoming Super Delegates' Congress scheduled for Sunday, August 31, 2014 and therefore all their votes are for him.

Additionally, Nana Akufo-Addo is enjoying massive endorsements from the various regions in the country, with the latest being the Central and Western regions where he was given acclamation for the Super Congress after a two day campaign tour.

'At a Special General Meeting in London on 21 August, called to allow members to express their wish for our preferred candidate in our forthcoming flagbearer elections, London and the UK Chapters overwhelmingly voted to mandate their delegates to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo as its preferred choice at the Super Delegates Congress to be held at designated polling centres across Ghana on August 31, 2014, and the flagbearer Congress on 18 th October. Nana Akufo-Addo polled over 90% of the votes,' the statement said.

Commenting on the results, the branch Chairman, Michael Ansah, noted that 'the UK Branch had chosen to carry out this process on this specific occasion, to give voice to our choice, and to mandate our delegates to the congress, going forward, to vote in accordance with these wishes.

The choice of Nana Addo as our preferred candidate, as confirmed by the voting is overwhelming. From here on we shall speak with one voice as a branch, united in the conviction of our choice'.

Each of the overseas branches has three votes and with this decision, the branch is giving all its three votes to Nana Addo.

Mr Ansah further stated that 'for us in the UK, integrity, discipline, respect for our Constitution, and a naked ambition to drive forward with purpose towards victory in 2016, will be what drives our every action.

Winning in 2016 is our goal.
We will not allow anything to distract us from this purpose.

'I call on all members of our great party to join in and be united behind this bold endeavour. I especially call on all our leaders, past and present, our Council of Elders, to show collective lead- ership in the face of any threats we face to the unity we seek,' he concluded.

The voting was a One Member-One-Vote (OMOV) affair. The branch was determined to ensure that the votes of its delegates will be a true reflection of the choice(s) of its members.

Votes
When all the votes were collated, Nana Akufo-Addo received an overwhelming endorsement with 92% of the total votes cast, leaving Alan Kyerematen and Stephen Asamoah Boateng to share the remaining 8% of the votes.

Four of the aspirants, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, Joe Ghartey, Kofi Osei Ameyaw and Francis Addai Nimo did not register a single vote.

Present at the London meeting were the Chairman of Council of Elders, Michael Boye-Anawoma, together with other founding members, namely Owusu Ansah-Boafo, Alex Amponsah Yeboah Kakabo, Mrs. Comfort Arthur and Matthew Kyeremeh.

The events, being the first major test of the new executives, were efficiently organised simultaneously across all the chapters in the UK.

By 8:30pm all the results had come in and the Secretary of the branch, Dr. John Kissi, accordingly announced to the membership the outcome of the voting.
