Mr. Kofi Ashiboe-Mensah, an economist and former Trade Minister, had his last breath on Founder's Day, 21 September 2011. Mr. Ashiboe-Mensah dedicated his life to the cause of equal opportunity and accelerated development in Ghana and Africathroughout his adult and professional life. Mr. Ashiboe-Mensah worked for the Ministry of Finance, Capital Investment Board (now Ghana Investment Promotion Centre) and in private capacity as an economic and technical consultant. In his last years he worked as a consultant to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development on Revenue Improvement Action Plan for District Assemblies and The Urban Sanitation Project. Mr. Ashiboe-Mensah provided consultancy service to the Government of Seychelles to help improve the country's fishing industry. Mr. Ashiboe-Mensah was multi-talented and was also a fashion designer who once designed for and clothed the Black Stars football team. He designed and presented a special garment for former President Sam Nujoma of Namibiawho was then the leader of the liberation movement, South-West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO). Mr. Ashiboe-Mensah was a leading member of the defunct Pan-African Youth Movement Organisation (PANYMO). Mr. Ashiboe-Mensah was 73.
Mr. Ashiboe-Mensah will be laid to rest at his hometown, Aflao, in the Volta Region. Funeral arrangements will be communicated later to the public.
