Atta Mills undermines Chiefs

CLEARLY, President Atta Mills and his NDC Government Functionaries are bent on undermining the Chieftaincy Institution in Ghana. They are gradually bringing the country to a brink of trouble at a time it has been described as a safe country on earth.

President Atta Mills is supposed to be a Christian but his actions do not bring peace. He pursues conflicts in chieftaincy matters discoloured by partisan Politics. Chiefs are symbols of unity in every community, and should be above politics. But President Atta Mills NDC Government is always meddling in big chieftaincy disputes throughout the country:

Since NDC returned to power in 2008 they have been involved in major chieftaincy conflicts:

- The NDC Leaders have installed a new Awoemefia against a judicial ruling. Top NDC military brass and politicians have imposed their man said to be an ex-convict on the throne causing an on-going chieftaincy dispute in Anlo.

- Atta Mills brought Cape Coast Chieftaincy into unnecessary disrepute during the Fetu Afahye Festival when he encouraged the Chief to publicly snub Nana Akuffo Addo, leaving motor mouth PC Ofori to utter the immortal words "Oguaa hene ye ohen gyengyan". It's Atta Mills who caused all these troubles.

- In the hotly disputed Dagbon crisis President Atta Mills showed his bias support for one of the factions by inviting them to a meeting at the Castle. His government has politicised the death of Ya Na's death causing the division of communities related to each other by blood.

- Atta Mills openly refused to attend the Golden Anniversary of one of the most important Chieftaincy of the country, Denkyirahene Nana Boa Amponsem. He could not honour a courteous invitation to a Chieftaincy steeped in the history of the country just because for political reasons.

- In his tour of Eastern Region, President Atta Mills was said to have snubbed Okyehene for political reasons when he went to his Abuakwa state College to commission a refurbishment project. Another chief openly declared his support for his second term, incurring public scorn and abuse.

- The gross disrespect and undermining of Ga Mantse by Atta Mills NDC Government is the most blatant disregard of the institution of Chieftaincy. He is brutal against this particular Ga Chief. NDC Government and Atta Mills hate him like poison. He did not invite him to State functions nor did he acknowledge his Homowo Rituals. He has no regard for the chief and has now allowed NDC Functionaries in the Castle to impose a new Ga Mantse to rival the sitting Ga Mantse and threaten another internecine conflict. This arrogant display of power and authority of state proves that President Atta Mills NDC Government has all the hallmarks of a Dictatorial Government.

- Atta Mills, Rawlings and the NDC Government nearly embroiled the Asantehene in their acrimonious politics. As their supporters criticise him at the least pretext, their leaders involve the Noble King in disputes between Rawlings and President Atta Mills. They then leak the secret meeting to the public media to embarrass him and his subjects most of whom are NPP. Nana Konadu then manage to sing at his Anniversary, leading FONKAR to publicly claim the support of the Asantehene for her presidential bid. The Asantehene had to publicly declare that he is not a politician and should be left alone.

- President Atta Mills NDC functionaries have been canvassing chiefs to declare their public support for him during his tours even though he knows Chiefs are traditional leaders of communities always divided by political opinions. It is very dangerous thing to do since it gives political opponents the chance to denigrate these sycophantic chiefs. He causes chiefs to be abused in their own local areas by their involvement in partisan politics. His supporters say chiefs can support the government because they are Ghanaians but we all know Chiefs should not be involved in partisan politics.

BUT President Atta Mills and his NDC Government were elected to fix the economy and not to meddle in chieftaincy matters!!!
