Many employees used to have a major concern and worry on how to be successful in the organization. Although the definition/understanding of the success is unclear, the concern remains.

More often the employees discover that communication to be the major ingredient for success in industry. Some may feel knowledge or work acumen. While some may specialize in people management skin. Of course some will specialize in spying and sycophancy. Who will be the most successful in the above lot?

The two major elements of success defined by the employees in most corporate are continuous promotion and or big money. Many such so called successful employees who earned many promotions and big compensation found great difficulty in getting a job when they have to leave the organization due to some reason or other. When they were so successful why they have leave the organization and why did they find difficulty in getting another job?

Will communication ensure success? We need to understand about the definition of the word communication before we attempt to answer the question. More often, communication is thought to be the style with which one address the mass and get their claps. The other dimension of communication is creation of an iconic image of the communicator in listener. Always the listener aspires to be like the communicator in his/her communication. The third dimension is the ability of the communicator to elicit a positive response in the listener and the response become an action at the later stage.

In industry, the first and second style communications sell well. Unfortunately, the third type of communication will not have any takers. If an employee think communication would bring success, he or she should follow only the first two styles and not the third type. Convey or confuse.

The people who feel knowledge and work acumen to be the cornerstone of success in industry must realize that a carpenter improving his work skill will make the carpenter to be a better carpenter in his work and does not ensure good flow of work. Only those who love fine art may need such carpenters. Traders doesn't require finest of carpenters.

If the people management skill be the key for success, one needs to take a vacation for a short while and have training from Shepherd or cowherd nearby. How to beat, chase and keep the cows or sheep together is what people management style in many corporate.

Sycophancy and spying do get some appreciation at many occasions. To become a sycophant is not so easy. One needs to have the absolute conviction that only others can ensure my success and not me.

The people who follow the philosophy of 'my job well done' and 'I don't know whether the job well done' will make huge success to them in many organizations. Entrepreneurs generally believe such people to be the best asset. A smart entrepreneur must keep these people in red tag area as they can be more dangerous.

Coming to the point of how to be successful in an organization lies to how well one create and use an opportunity. If one succeed well in creating and using the culture of sycophancy in an organization becomes successful. It is not the skill or talent assures success, how well one creates a need for such talent or skill in continuum is what brings success. That is why most managers follow the lesson of trick of the trade not the trade in many corporate.
