NGO donates relief items to flood victims

Ashaiman, Aug 31, GNA - The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a non-governmental organisation, on Tuesday donated some relief items to the Ashaiman Municipal branch of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) for distribution to flood victims in the Municipality.

Mr William Lorenz, Senior Operations Officer for IOM, West and Central Africa who presented the items, said they consisted of 1,262 personal kits and 253 family kits.

Mr Lorenz said the items formed part of 15,000 kits presented for distribution to the Western, Central and Greater-Accra Regions, as the priority areas identified by NADMO, adding that Ashaiman Municipality was the only beneficiary in the Greater-Accra Region.

A personal kit consists of one mosquito net, plastic plates, a cup, a 50-litre bucket, blanket, ploy mat, bathing soap and carry-on bag as well as a set of information materials on flood prevention, personal hygiene, H1N1 prevention and HIV/AIDS.

The family kit also consist of a laundry bowl, bathing pail, kitchen set, a bar of laundry soap, aqua tabs, sanitary wear, carry-on bags and information materials.

Mr Lorenz said his outfit deals with migration issues that included assisting Ghanaians living abroad to return home, supporting victims of trafficking, providing medical examination for migrants and refugees.

Mr Steven Lawer Agudey, Ashaiman NADMO Co-ordinator received the items and thanked the NGO.
