Bombshell: HAJJ Board cant guarantee Jeddah trip
11.12.2007 LISTEN

With just three days for the Jeddah Airport to be closed to Pilgrims entering Saudi Arabia for the annual HAJJ, authorities organising the pilgrimage say they cannot guarantee that pilgrims will make the trip.

Some 2700 pilgrims expecting to start their journey to Jeddah have been held up at the Cargo Village near the Kotoka International Airport.

The HAJJ Board has reneged at least three times on promises to resolve the travel difficulties. Chairman of the Board, Alhaji Ahmed Saeed says the board has hit several roadblocks in attempts to airlift the pilgrims.

He told Joy News the board was doing its best to secure another aircraft.

The pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca for HAJJ is known to be the fifth of the five pillars of Islam. Every Moslem is expected to perform HAJJ once in their lifetime.

The Holy Prophet Mohammed is said to have stated that the reward of performing HAJJ is Heaven.
