Police arrest three Legon students over ‘shit bombing’

The Legon police have arrested three students in connection with the weekend's desecration of some examination centres at the University of Ghana with human excreta.

The incident disrupted the examinations and forced the postponement of some of the papers. The police believe the three suspects from the Commonwealth, Legon and Mensah Sarbah halls were behind the incident.

Chief Superintendent of police Angwubutoge Awuni, the Legon District Police Commander, told Joy News the University authorities first arrested the three on suspicion they were involved in the vandalism before handing them over to the police.

Meanwhile, the Pro-Vice chancellor of the University of Ghana Professor Kwesi Yankah has said the action by the students was the worst ever display of indiscipline at the university.

The incident has been linked to the students' protests over the new accommodation policy which offers accommodation to only first year students but Prof. Yankah says this would rather entrench the authorities' stance.

The affected examination centres have since been cleaned and disinfected. The halls were used for examinations on Sunday.

The police have however beefed up their presence on the university campus to forestall any further untoward incidents.

In another development, a former student Lord Hama who was arrested has been released on police enquiry bail.
