The Chief Executive Officer of Dalex Finance Company has accused the Ghanaian government of neglecting the private sector and job creation, claiming all it cares about is spending lavishly.

Ken Thompson shared his criticism of the government in an interview on Accra-based JoyFM's Super Morning Show.

According to Mr. Thompson, the challenges businesses currently face mean they "cannot plan" with individuals' savings being wiped out.

"The government of Ghana doesn't care about the private sector. The government doesn't care about creating jobs. The government is only interested in governments and the people that benefit from their largesse," he stated.

Mr. Thompson said whenever businesses raise concerns, the only response from authorities is to tout infrastructure projects.

But he questioned "who cares" about such developments if the fundamental economic environment remains unstable.

The Dalex Finance CEO argued high interest rates, poor infrastructure, and a population unable to spend due to poverty are hampering business activity.

With multinational firms like Nivea and Jumia Foods now leaving Ghana, he warned that the situation may drive away the few investors from operating in the country.

"I'm interested in how I can plan, and have a framework that allows me to plan. You can't plan for more than one day, what system is this?" Mr. Thompson asked angrily.

He believes even if local businesses grow, they would still face the same problems.
