The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in the Eastern region made a significant stride in terms of card renewals in the year, 2023.

According to NHIA, its current membership of the scheme stands at 1,847,387 as against a target of 2,7600,469 set for the year under review.

The Regional Operations Manager, Mr Harry Thompson Baffour disclosed this in his account at the end of year review held in Koforidua on Thursday.

He emphasised that the digitalisation of their activities over the past years has contributed a lot to the increasing rate of membership renewals as many clients now find it easy wherever they may find themselves.

On the issue of activities of health providers, Mr. Thompson Baffour raised issues of some cases where there have been several complaints from clients of illegal collection of monies but assured that the authority would not condone such attitudes if reported.

He urged clients to be bold enough and report such cases to the district offices of the authority to ensure the provider refunds such illegal monies.

Despite the successes chalked in the last year, he used the opportunity to call on government and leadership of the scheme to help deal with some of the challenges they face to make their work a success.

Birim South municipality emerged winner in terms of card renewal in the region with the District manager, Benjamin Kuuku Baiden attributing it to the vigorous and intensive sensitisation his outfit has been carrying out over the past three years.
