Independent Presidential candidate Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has criticized both the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 32-year of resorting to International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailouts, which he believes has led to a deep economic mess in Ghana.

Kyerematen, the founder and leader of the Movement for Change, positioned himself as a transformative leader, presenting a viable alternative to the two major political parties.

He urged Ghanaians to seek change beyond the traditional NPP and NDC.

During an interview on Citi TV, Mr. Kyerematen highlighted the historic reliance on IMF assistance during the terms of both the NDC and NPP, suggesting a lack of innovative solutions from both parties.

He also emphasized the need for a fresh approach and urged voters to consider him as the most suitable candidate in the upcoming general elections.

"People are beginning to ask questions, so if after 32 years, we are in such a deep economic mess, it was no better during the NDC days.

“Getting to the end of the NDC, we went to the IMF, and getting to the second term of the NPP, we are going to the IMF. Does it take any level of sophisticated thinking for you to realize as a Ghanaian that it is time for a change?

“It’s clear that we need to try something different," stated Kyerematen.

The former Trade Minister highlighted his accomplishments in both former President John Agyekum Kufuor's and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administrations, particularly citing his effectiveness in implementing the One-District-One-Factory (1D1F) initiative.

"If you look at my record under former President J.A Kufuor’s administration and President Akufo-Addo’s government... the most comprehensive and innovative program for the NPP has been the One-District-One-Factory initiative.

“It’s been one of the greatest success stories of NPP," Kyerematen affirmed.

Asserting his popularity in the Volta and Central Regions, Kyerematen claimed to have more support in these areas compared to his contenders, NPP's Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and NDC's John Dramani Mahama.

He mentioned having 600,000 volunteers nationwide for his campaign, underlining his confidence in securing more backing from other regions, including the Ashanti region.
