The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama criticised Akufo-Addo's government, accusing it of politicising the distribution of premix fuel meant for fishers.

Mr Mahama made these remarks during an engagement with fisherfolk in Axim, located in the Western Region, as part of his "Building the Ghana We Want" tour.

Acknowledging concerns raised by the local fisherfolk who claimed they were facing challenges in accessing premix fuel for their fishing activities, the former President expressed disappointment in the ruling government, accusing it of being responsible for negatively impacting the work of artisanal fishers.

"When we were in power, we set up the landing beach committee, and at that time, anyone could be a member.

“The premix was distributed judiciously. But now, fuel diversion and mismanagement of the distribution of premix fuel appear to have reached its peak. The NPP government is politicizing the distribution," Mr Mahama laments.

The former President affirmed his commitment to revitalising the fisheries sector and promised reforms if elected in the upcoming general elections in 2024.

"I know that by God’s grace, the NDC will win the elections, and I promise to improve the fisheries sector if elected in the 2024 polls. I will give you a sector minister who will perform better," he assured.

During his tour in Takoradi, residents endorsed Mahama's 24-hour economy campaign policy, signaling support for the NDC leader's vision for economic development and progress.
