Be bold to leave the party when you sense issues - Prof Smart Sarpong on dismissed NPP members

Professor Smart Sarpong, Senior Research Fellow at the Kumasi Technical University, has encouraged individuals to be bold and leave their political party if they feel compelled to do so.

The comments follow the NPP's dismissal of Hopeson Adorye, Nana Ohene Ntow, Boniface Abubakar Saddique, and Yaw Buaben Asamoah for openly supporting Alan Kyerematen, an independent presidential candidate.

The NPP, in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, asserted that the actions of the four individuals breached the party's constitution, leading to an automatic forfeiture of their membership.

According to the party's constitution, "A member of the party, who stands as an independent candidate against the officially elected member of the Party, or who joins or declares his or her support for another Political Party, or for an independent candidate when the Party has sponsored a candidate in a general or by-election, automatically forfeits his or her membership of the Party."

Discussing the matter on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, Professor Smart Sarpong stated, "If you are not for me, then you are not with me.

“Those should know those who are for them and work with them…If you say you want to do a Party job but feel something worries, so you want to leave to join party B or C, be bold; do it."

He cautions "But if you will remain in the party, then note that whatever it is, something will get on your nerves.

“When two people are going for competition, both of them can't win. One will win, and when the person wins, be humble enough to work with the person in the interest of the party you claim to be a member of."

In a warning to NPP, Professor Smart Sarpong urged the party to exercise caution in the treatment of its members especially during an electioneering period, highlighting the potential for hostile reactions if not handled well.
