The Bekwai constituency in the Ashanti region will be in the spotlight in 2024 as the general elections draw nearer.

It is one of the constituencies that has contributed much to the political fortunes of the New Patriotic Party and Ghana at large considering the political figures it has produced notably, Joseph Osei-Owusu, the current first Deputy Speaker of Parliament of the Republic of Ghana and a four-term Member of Parliament.

After serving for sixteen years in parliament, Mr. Joseph Osei-Owusu popularly known in the political landscape as 'Joe Wise' earlier this year made it public that he has bowed out of parliamentary duties, and for that matter will not contest again.

This means that the constituency will be represented in parliament by a face in the eighth parliament of the Fourth Republic.

Unlike the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has yet to open a Nomination to constituencies with sitting members of parliament including the Bekwai constituency.

Although the battle line is yet to be drawn, some personalities have already availed themselves to fill the yet-to-be-vacant portfolio to serve the good people of Bekwai.

In our broad preliminary interactions within the constituency, a good score of constituents seems to be rooting for Henry Opoku Ware (Owass) one of the aspiring candidates.

According to some constituents particularly delegates, the constituency needs someone who can bring investment in both human and infrastructure.

They believe Henry Opoku-Ware being a successful businessman and a politician has the requisite qualities to lead the Bekwai constituency.

Some further said the businessman's contributions and availability in the area, making it up to every party activity have also shown his readiness to serve.

Henry Opoku Ware is a native of Anwiankwanta, a town in the Bekwai municipality, and the Chief Executive officer of the HEGIS Business Conglomerate ( real estate management, construction, banking and investment consultancy service, and water production).

As a chartered accountant and a lawyer, Henry Opoku Ware has worked with the first National bank, the West African Examination Council, and the Northern Cape Oncology Center, South Africa.

He has been a member of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, offering a lot of support to both party activities and members as well.

Henry Opoku Ware declared his intentions to contest the Bekwai seat after the incumbent MP announced that he would not run for the position again.
