Samuel Koku Anyidoho, CEO of the Atta Mills Institute and former Deputy General Secretary of the NDC has disputed claims by NPP flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong that he was offered $800 million to step down from the race.

In a tweet on Tuesday, October 31, Mr Anyidoho stated that Mr Agyapong's allegations "don't make sense one bit."

He noted that the Assin Central lawmaker is "just telling lies."

He compared the $800 million figure to Ghana's current $3 billion IMF extended credit facility, asking "So, if they have $800 M, is it this man they will give it as bribe?"

“I have been thinking; did the NPP not go cup-in-hand begging for $3 billion extended credit facility? Was the first tranche not $600 M? So, if they have $800 M, is it this man they will give it as bribe? He is just telling lies that don’t make sense one bit,” he wrote.

Kennedy Agyapong had alleged on Kumasi-based Time FM that the NPP offered him a huge bribe to drop out of the flagbearer contest but he turned it down because he "loved Ghana".

The outspoken MP also denied claims that he had requested $500 million from the party to opt out, adding that several high-ranking NPP members had tried to convince him to abandon his flagbearer ambitions.

The party is scheduled to elect a new flagbearer on November 4, to lead it into the 2024 elections.
