MoH recruits 700 tutors for Nurses and Midwifery Colleges

To promote quality training of nurses and midwives, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has recruited over 700 tutors for the various Nursing and Midwifery Training Colleges in the country.

The Health Minister, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, disclosed this on Tuesday at Bolgatanga during the 16th Annual General Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Health Training Institutions (COHHETI).

“The Ministry is in the business of building the capacity of the health training schools to make them efficient in the training of our health workers,” he said.

Mr Agyeman-Manu also noted that the MoH and the Health Training Institutions are required to provide policy direction to guide the training of health professionals.

He said it was, therefore, necessary for the Ministry to support the training institutions to enable them to perform their functions more effectively, saying the work of the health training institutions is critical in quality health delivery.

Touching on the working conditions of the health workers, he expressed optimism that the Ministry would approve the new conditions of service before the end of 2023.

On his part, the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Stephen Yakubu, charged the nurses and midwives to adhere to their professional ethics.

The Acting Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Prof Ahmed Abdullai Jinapor, asserted that the well-being of the citizens largely depends on the competence and skills of health professionals.

That, he said, makes the training of health workers a moral responsibility that must be taken seriously.
